A prison inmate who absconded while undergoing assessment at a hospital facility is being hunted by police.

Edward O'Neil, 47, has served approximately one year of a four-year jail sentence at Norwich Prison for distraction burglary offences.

He was undergoing assessment at Cawston Park psychiatric facility, in Norfolk, when he absconded on Friday.

Two men, known to O'Neil, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting him to abscond, police said.

He is now clean shaven with short greying hair and was last seen wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit.
