A pet boa constrictor that sparked a police alert when she escaped has been found after 53 days on the loose.

Snakey was discovered on Thursday evening in a garage close to her owner's home in St Mary's Island, Chatham, Kent.

Pc Mick O'Meara, who led the hunt for the 6ft (1.8m) snake, praised those who "never gave up" looking for her.

Snakey was examined by a vet after being found. The reptile was dehydrated but in good health otherwise.
