The 26-year-old was sitting in a car with his girlfriend outside the house in Transalla when four masked men approached. Gardai said four masked men had been waiting for the 26-year-old and his girlfriend to return to their Transalla home.
They opened fire on the car, hitting him in the neck, but he managed to drive off. His girlfriend, who jumped out, was abducted but later abandoned. They surrounded the woman as she got out of their car, and fired two shots at her boyfriend through the windscreen, hitting him in the neck.
Her boyfriend drove to a neighbour's house and alerted gardai. He was then taken to Letterkenny Hospital, where he underwent surgery. The men bundled the woman into a van but abandoned her nearby.
