Almost 100 jobs are to be lost at a forklift manufacturing plant in County Armagh.

NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG) has announced 93 redundancies at its Craigavon plant "over coming months".

The American company, which employs 712 people in Craigavon, blamed the economic downturn for the job losses.

"These aren't balance sheet figures but people's lives and livelihoods," said SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly.

"In these difficult economic times, the employer, the department, and Invest Northern Ireland must act - businesses must be protected and new contracts must be sourced."

"It is clear that as economic instability continues to affect the workforce here, political instability should not consign other workers to a similar fate."
