Coastal search for missing divers 'No evidence' divers are missing
(about 4 hours later)
A search operation is under way after two divers were reported missing off the Scottish Borders coast. A search triggered by reports of two missing divers has been called off after nothing was found.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency received a call to the incident at about 1320 BST. Three lifeboats, a helicopter and two coastguard teams were sent to search the waters near the village of St Abbs, in Berwickshire.
The two divers were not seen to return after going out into waters off St Abbs in Berwickshire. A lifeboat officer had reported seeing the divers near the entrance to the harbour at about 1300 BST on Monday.
Inshore rescue craft, coastguards and a helicopter from RAF Boulmer have been sent to the scene to try to trace the missing pair. However, coastguards said the search had found nothing and there was no evidence anyone was missing.
Forth Coastguard co-ordinated the rescue efforts. Teams from St Abbs and Eyemouth searched the shoreline while an air force helicopter was scrambled from RAF Boulmer.
An inshore RNLI lifeboat and two all-weather vessels combed the area around the dive site.
A Forth Coastguard spokesman said: "There are no plans for it to resume. We do not have any evidence that anybody is still missing.
"An extensive search was undertaken. Nothing was uncovered. There has been no further evidence found of anybody missing.
"The search has been terminated."
