Two children, aged five and eight, and their parents have been taken to Altnagelvin Hospital following a fire at a house in Eglinton.

The blaze is believed to have started with a chip pan at St Canice's Terrace shortly after 0700 BST on Sunday.

The family of four were out of the house when the fire service arrived and were treated at the scene for the effects of breathing in smoke.

The kitchen was damaged by fire and the rest of the house smoke-logged.
