An eight-month-old baby girl has died in a house fire in Shetland. The family of an eight-month-old baby killed in a house fire in Shetland have spoken of their shock and devastation.
Her father was said to be in a stable condition after being flown to hospital in Aberdeen with severe injuries. Annalise Middleton died and her father was seriously injured in the fire at their home in Brae, Shetland.
Emergency crews were called to the house in the Moorfield Estate in Brae in the north of the islands at about 0230 BST. The child's mother and a six-year-old girl and four-year-old boy, who were inside the house, managed to escape but suffered minor smoke inhalation.
Neighbours tried to gain entry, but the flames and intense heat forced them back. It is understood the baby's mother and two of her children escaped. Emergency crews were called to the house in the Moorfield Estate in Brae at about 0230 BST.

The baby's father was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick and then transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he is said to be in a "serious" condition.
In a statement, the family said: "We are shocked and devastated at the loss of our beautiful baby daughter Annalise.
"We find it too difficult at this time to put into words the loss we all feel."
