The incident is believed to have happened in woods near Rotherham at around midday. The incident happened in woods in Hollins Lane, Sunnyside, near Rotherham at about midday.
South Yorkshire Police and the fire and rescue service are still at the scene in Hollins Lane in Sunnyside. A police spokeswoman said the dead boy, who has not yet been identified, was from the Rotherham area.
The dead boy has not yet been identified. Police and the fire service are expected to release more details shortly. In a joint statement, the police and fire service said: "It is believed the boy was climbing the pylon and may have been electrocuted before he fell."
