MP is 'arrested' in charity stunt

Well-known figures in Sheffield including former Home Secretary David Blunkett have been "arrested" as part of a stunt to raise money for charity.

The unlikely criminals were taken to the city's crown court after being "picked up" by police at a garage on West Street.

They then had to raise £1,000 bail to avoid spending time in the cells.

The Sheffield jail break has been organised in aid of Lost Chord, a charity for people with dementia.

The Sheffield Brightside MP was joined by Chief fire officer Mark Smitherman, Sheffield councillor Steve Ayris and Frances Woodhead, the council's head of legal services.

Speaking before the event, Mr Woodhead said: "I'm certainly not used to being on the wrong side of the law.

"The prospect of jail isn't one I relish so we are working tirelessly to raise the cash for Lost Chord and to make a difference to dementia sufferers across South Yorkshire."
