Speaking after he was unveiled as leader, Mr Gray said it was time to "close the manifesto" on which Labour fought and lost the 2007 Scottish election and move forward. 'Fresh start'
He secured 57.8% of the final vote in a run off against Ms Jamieson, the party's former deputy leader, while Mr Kerr, the former health minister, came third. He said: "This election is the beginning of a new conviction in Scottish Labour, united around our shared values and moving forward with common purpose.
"Labour is best when we look outwards and align our values with the people's aspirations. Not just listening but hearing."
Mr Gray promised a "fresh start" for the party.
"It is time to close the manifesto on which we fought the 2007 Scottish election and time to write our programme for Scotland for 2011 and beyond," he said.
He said a senior colleague would be given the job of developing policy which was in line with Labour values but in touch with the wider Scotland.
