Channel train services recommence Channel trains resume after fire

The first train to run through the Channel Tunnel since its closure following a fire made its journey successfully overnight. Passenger trains have begun running through the Channel Tunnel again following the fire which closed it.
The freight train set off from England before midnight and was followed by an empty shuttle train at about 0100 BST. A freight train from England was the first to pass through just before midnight on Friday and was followed by an empty shuttle train an hour later.
Eurotunnel has said that passenger services are expected to resume at about 0600 BST. Since the journey was successful, Eurotunnel decided to start operating a limited shuttle and Eurostar service.
Batches of four trains an hour will be running in alternate directions through the undamaged south tunnel. Truck shuttles are able to pass through but it is not yet known when a service transporting cars will resume.
