Man faces rape, murder bid charge Man charged with multiple rape

A man is to appear in Londonderry Magistrate's Court later charged with attempted murder and rape. A 42-year-old man from County Clare has appeared in court charged with the multiple rape and attempted murder of a woman in Londonderry.
The man, aged in his 30s, is also accused of making threats to kill and assault. Patrick McNamara, of no fixed abode, denies attempted murder, rape, assault and making threats to kill in a house in Ardanlee in Culmore on Tuesday.
The charges relate to an incident alleged to have occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning. A police officer told Londonderry Magistrates Court the accused allegedly raped the married woman four times.
The incident was alleged to have happened in the Culmore area of Derry. Mr McNamara was remanded in custody to 8 October.
