Six hurt as fire destroys hotel | |

Six people have been taken to hospital after a serious fire at a bed and breakfast hotel in the early hours. | |
Firefighters rescued five residents after battling through the burning building in Blackburn, Lancashire. | |
Among the casualties were two firefighters, burnt during the rescue, and a resident who suffered serious leg injuries leaping from a window. | |
Thirteen residents made their own way to safety. It is not yet known if anyone else is missing. | |
The fire in Bolton Road was reported at 0232 GMT on Wednesday. | |
Building unstable | |
When crews arrived 13 residents had escaped, but an unknown number of people were still in the building, prompting the rescue. | |
A Lancashire Fire Service spokeswoman said three firefighters treated in hospital had since been released. | |
Two residents are being treated for the effects of breathing in smoke. | |
"Due to the severity of the fire we are still not in a position to account for all of the residents," said the spokeswoman. | |
Operations are expected to continue until at least lunchtime because the building has become unstable. | |
