Cyclist dies in island road crash

A female cyclist has died and a male cyclist suffered head and leg injuries following a crash involving a van on the island of Arran.

The woman, aged 59, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which took place on the A841 on Saturday evening.

Strathclyde Police said the 27-year-old driver appeared to lose control of his vehicle and struck the two cyclists.

The 67-year-old male cyclist was taken to the South General Hospital in Glasgow where he was being treated.

His condition is described as stable.

The van driver was taken to Arran War Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a minor head injury. He was later discharged.
