About 3,000 people have mistakenly been recorded as being from Guyana, in South America, on the updated electoral roll.

South Cambridgeshire District Council said the nationality of those affected was "unknown" and that the mistake was down to a new computer system.

Residents reported the mistake to the council early on Friday. The new software has now been updated.
It said new software would not allow them to remain without a nationality, but it the software now been updated.

The council spokeswoman assured residents that the information is being prepared for the register published in December this year, so it will not affect their current entry on the electoral register.
