A woman charged in connection with the murders of a Welsh couple honeymooning in Antigua has been granted bail. The Canadian who was in charge of the inquiry into the honeymoon murders of a south Wales couple in Antigua has confirmed he has been fired.
Ben and Catherine Mullany, both 31, from Pontardawe, Swansea Valley were shot in July on the last day of their two-week honeymoon. Antiguan Police Commissioner Gary Nelson said Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer had relieved him of his duties.
Ramona Mejia Gervasio, 32, who is charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, appeared before magistrates in St John's on the island. He was appointed earlier this year by the Antiguan government as it faced a spate of violent crimes on the island.
A man and a youth have been remanded in custody charged with murder. He led the investigation into the murders of Catherine and Ben Mullany, who were both 31 and from Pontardawe.
Keniel Martin, 20, and a 17-year-old youth who cannot be named for legal reasons, are also charged with robbery and receiving stolen goods. Mr Nelson, a former senior officer in Ottawa, was appointed to reform the force on the Caribbean island but reportedly complained when he arrived that the police headquarter had no running water, no working fax machines and no radios for patrols.
Three woman including Ms Gervasio, who is also charged with receiving stolen goods, have been also charged in connection with the inquiry. He is said to have brought three Canadian Mounties with him when he joined.

Physiotherapist Mr and Mrs Mullany, from Pontardawe, south Wales, were shot on 27 July at the Cocos Hotel and Resort on the south west of the island.
And 31-year-old Jeorgette Aaron, is also in custody charged with perverting the course of justice, accessory after the fact to robbery, and accessory after the fact to murder. Mrs Mullany, a doctor, died instantly. Her husband, also 31 and a trainee physiotherapist, died a week later after he was flown home in a coma to a hospital in Swansea.
