A 40-year-old man from Londonderry has been jailed for 18 months for downloading about 20,000 indecent images of children from the internet.

John Llewelyn James, from Garvagh Court in the Waterside, was a part-time worker with the North West Forum for people with disabilities.

The judge at Laganside Magistrates court said James admitted his guilt and said he wanted help for his addiction.

James was banned from contact with children and accessing the internet.

He will also serve three years probation after his release.
