A Czech man has been sentenced to 11 years in jail for advertising on the internet for someone to kill his wife.

Michal Ernat, 31, was convicted by a court in Plzen, which heard he had offered 2,000 euros (£1,347) for his 43-year-old wife to be killed.

Ernat had also demanded that the murder should look like an accident.

A Slovak man who spotted the advert reported Ernat to the police. Ernat, who maintains he is innocent, appealed against the verdict.

The city of Plzen lies about 100km (62 miles) south-west of the Czech capital, Prague.
