Pop group Take That have topped the UK singles and album charts simultaneously for the first time in their career.

The reformed band's song Patience remained the number one single for the second week, while Beautiful World entered at one on the albums countdown.

Akon and Eminem stayed in second on the singles list, with Bootyluv's dance track Boogie 2Nite up from 19 to three.

Mainstream opera act Il Divo had the number two album with Siempre, and the best of Oasis fell one place to third.

'Fairytale'

Take That's Gary Barlow said their chart double was "just amazing".

"I never dreamt this could happen," he said. "If you'd told me this 14 months ago, that we'd have a number one album and single in the same week, I'd never have believed you.

"It's like a fairytale. Totally brilliant."

His colleague Jason Orange said it was "the strangest thing in the world, 11 years on, to have this happen".

"It really feels like we've achieved something, and for me it's a testament to good friendship and hard work we've all put in.

"It feels really special and we're all really made up."

Elsewhere several singles enjoyed big climbs from outside the top 40.

Glaswegian indie act The Fratellis jumped from 52 to nine with Whistle for the Choir, while Knights of Cydonia by guitar group Muse went up from 92 to 10.

The Killers rose 35 places to 15 with their song Bones, and dance track The Cure, The Cause by Fish Go Deep was up from 45 to 23.

Many songs have leapt up the charts in this way in recent months, starting in a low position from download sales alone and then rising quickly when the single is available in a physical form in shops.

Choir's success

On the album chart, last week's number one, The Love Album by Westlife, was down to number four, while the Beatles dropped two places to five with Love.

The members of the Fron Male Voice Choir, who have an average age of 66, moved into the top 10.

The Welsh group's debut album Voices of the Valley was up four to nine.

There was a new entry at 20 for celebrity couple Katie Price - often referred to as Jordan - and Peter Andre with their release A Whole New World.

The third album by former X Factor contestants G4, Act Three, went in at 21, while dance act Faithless were new at 30 and rapper Jay-Z made his debut at 35.
