The body of a woman found in a brook in Suffolk has been formally identified as missing prostitute Gemma Adams.

The 25-year-old vanished from Ipswich on 15 November following the disappearance of another prostitute Tania Nicol on 30 October.

A member of the public spotted the body in the water at Thorpe's Hill near Hintlesham, Suffolk, on Saturday.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman confirmed that detectives were treating the death as suspicious.

A post mortem examination was carried out at Ipswich Hospital on Sunday by a Home Office pathologist and further tests will now have to be carried out to help ascertain the cause of death.

Police at Hintlesham have cordoned off a wide area

Police have shut roads for three miles around Hintlesham. The village is five miles from where the women were last seen.

There is a strong police presence in the area and the A1071 Hadleigh road has been closed between the east side of Hintlesham and Ipswich.

The road is not expected to reopen until late on Sunday night or Monday morning.

A large area around a private fishing lake, which the brook feeds, has been cordoned off to protect any forensic material or evidence, a police spokesman said.

Search teams and forensic investigation officers are expected at the scene on Monday and priority will be given to the area within the cordon, the spokesman said.
