Stab man 'in row before attack'

A 21-year-old man who was stabbed in the heart was in an argument moments before he was murdered, police said.

The man, from Wolverhampton, sustained injuries in an altercation on Broad Street in the city at about 0330 BST on Sunday, it was believed.

The man was taken to New Cross hospital in Wolverhampton in a taxi and officers were called to the hospital.

Three city centre roads - Broad Street, Queen Street and Lichfield Street - which were shut have reopened.

The man, who has yet to be named, died in hospital. A post-mortem was due to take place to find out exactly how he died.

The West Midlands force said on Monday the motive was unclear at this early stage.

"It would have been pretty busy at that time over a Bank Holiday weekend with people leaving pubs and clubs," said a police spokesman.

A murder incident room was being established at Bilston Street police station in Wolverhampton.
