Version 0 of 1.

The SNP has announced its candidate for a forthcoming by-election.

Peter Grant, currently leader of Fife Council, has been nominated by the party to contest the vacant Westminster seat of Glenrothes.

The by-election, in a Fife seat next door to Prime Minister Gordon Brown's, was triggered by the death of Labour MP John MacDougall last week.

The SNP are the first party to nominate their candidate. No date has been set for the contest.

Cllr Grant, who has lived in Fife for 25 years, said he was "delighted" to have been selected.

And he urged voters to send a "clear message" to Westminster to act on rising household bills by voting for the Nationalists.

He declared: "London only listens when the SNP wins - it's Fife's turn now."
