"A derailment of a train with about 50 people [on board] has occurred and the train fell into a ravine," a spokesperson for the country's civil protection services is quoted as telling Reuters. The mayor of the town of Mirandela told local news services that the train driver "said he felt an explosion" before the train careered from the rails, Portugal's Lusa news agency reported.
