Even though swimmer David Davies missed out on Olympic gold he was given the chance to star in his favourite award winning comedy, Gavin and Stacey. Olympic silver medallist David Davies has a new goal - a part in his favourite TV series - Gavin and Stacey.
Davies revealed on BBC Radio 5 Live he was a "massive fan of the series and it's filmed in my home town of Barry". The swimmer was put in touch with the comedy's star and co-writer Ruth Jones a few hours after his gruelling 10km open water event in Beijing,
Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa in the series, congratulated him saying she was "really proud" of his achievements. Jones gave him a brief "audition" on BBC Radio 5 Live and invited him on location for the Christmas show which will be filmed in his home town Barry.
In character, Jones gave him a brief audition, inviting the swimmer to the arcade where she works. Davies said he was a "massive fan" and it had completed an "epic day".
Talking about the BBC show, silver medalist Davies, dubbed Dai Splash in his home country, said: "When it was first released, I was bigging it up to everyone. My acting skills aren't brilliant but I'd love a cameo role. I'm trying my best.
