A man has drowned after a small rowing boat capsized off one of the Orkney Islands. A 39-year-old man has drowned after a small rowing boat capsized off one of the Orkney Islands.
The accident happened in the bay of St Margaret's Hope on South Ronaldsay at about 2300 BST on Monday. William Tait, of Meadowbank, Kirkwall, fell into the bay of St Margaret's Hope at South Ronaldsay on Monday night.
A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said three men were on board the boat when it overturned. A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said Mr Tait died at the scene, but two other men who were also in the boat managed to swim to safety.
Two of the men managed to swim to safety but a third died at the scene. His details are not being released until relatives have been informed. The two men who reached shore were taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall suffering from hypothermia.
