Jamie Owen, Bob Humphrys's BBC co-presenter for a number of years, also paid tribute saying there was a "great chemistry" between them both.
Owen said: "There was no rivalry. We were very good friends and I guess it showed on screen.
He also said Humphrys had something very few other people have and that was a "real connection with the audience."
