Version 0 of 1.

A female police officer has been arrested as part of an investigation into organised prostitution and corruption of public officials.

The serving Northumbria Police officer is one of 14 people arrested at addresses in the North East, Greater Manchester and Lothian and Borders.

Computers and other material have been seized as part of the raids.

A police spokesman said the majority had been questioned and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Complex inquiry

The Northumbria Police spokesman said: "The arrests are the result of a protracted investigation into organised prostitution and corrupting public officials.

"We can confirm that one of those arrested is a serving woman officer from Northumbria Police.

"This is a complex, ongoing investigation so we will be making no further comment at this stage."

The eight women and six men arrested range in age from early 20s to late 50s.

The investigation, which involved raids in the Northumbria force area and Durham, has been supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
