Arrests in fuel smuggling probe

A number of men have been arrested and illegal fuel seized in a joint operation by the PSNI and officers from HM Revenue and Customs.

Four men were arrested on Tuesday and a fifth presented himself to police on Wednesday.

It follows searches of commercial and private premises in Belfast, Kilkeel, Newry and Lurgan.

Nearly 4,000 litres of fuel, two lorries and eight cars were seized.

Customs said the operation followed a months-long investigation into alleged fuel laundering and smuggling.
