Rapist sentenced to 14 year term

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a 64-year-old woman while breaking into her home.

Joseph Francis McCabe from Iris Street in west Belfast admitted raping the woman in the north of the city.

The judge said the February 2005 attack had been a "violent terrifying and prolonged ordeal for the victim".

He ruled that on his release, McCabe must be supervised under licence to provide protection to the public.
