A £52m dual carriageway is to improve the safety of a road in North Antrim which has been the scene of several fatal road accidents.
The upgrade of the A26 between Ballymena and Ballymoney will include the Frosses Road.
The road is famous for its overhanging pine trees but is also considered an accident blackspot.
Regional development minister Conor Murphy said journey times will also be reduced.
Five options were considered for the upgrade of the road, on which 18,000 vehicles travel each day.
North Antrim MLA Ian Paisley Jr said it was good news for the constituency.
"There've been far too many lives lost on that road, and at last we're going to have a new dual carriageway which will allow for better road safety, better transport links, improvements to tourism and improvements to business." |
