Version 0 of 1.

Donkey owners in Skegness have been overwhelmed with offers of winter homes for their animals during the off-season.

The Donkey Sanctuary had appealed for help in finding grazing land for the animals as some owners were having difficulty finding accommodation.

Shelagh Steel said homes had been found for 12 donkeys in the Lincolnshire and Leicestershire areas.

"We were absolutely overwhelmed by the response," she said.

The donkeys need about an acre of well-fenced grazing land as well as a shelter and fresh supply of water.

"Donkeys need to be re-homed in pairs as they are companion animals," she added.

There are about 85 working donkeys on the Skegness beach resort.

The Donkey Sanctuary was founded in 1969 and provides veterinary services for working donkeys in the UK and Ireland, and has subsidiary organisations in Cyprus, Italy and Spain.
