Re “Embassy Withdrawal and Travel Warning Sow Alarm in Cuba” (news article, Sept. 30):

The new wave of warnings on travel to Cuba and the staff reduction at our embassy in Havana are completely unwarranted.

The health issues were restricted to diplomats and have reportedly ceased. The Cubans even invited the F.B.I. in to investigate, with no definite cause found. No tourist has been similarly injured.

The warnings about travel and visa restrictions for Cubans damage the very people whom President Trump has said he would like to help — the new Cuban entrepreneurs who have invested money in renovating apartments to create bed-and-breakfasts, the private restaurant owners, taxi drivers, tour guides, waiters, artists and craftspeople.

In addition, United States airlines will be harmed by reduced travel, as will travel operators that have legal groups going into Cuba.
