Flats sealed off after gun report Man arrested after day-long alert
(about 2 hours later)
An area around a block of high rise flats in Glasgow has been sealed off following reports of two men with firearms. A man has been arrested following an all-day security alert at a block of high rise flats in the Milton area of north Glasgow.
Strathclyde Police said they were negotiating with an unspecified number of people inside a flat in Scaraway Street in the Milton area. A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said he was arrested on several apprehension warrrants - which are issued following failure to appear at court.
A local community centre, the Chyrnside Centre, has been set up for residents who cannot get into their homes. She said no firearm was recovered or discharged during the incident in Scaraway Street.
Earlier, police warned people to stay indoors. The flats were cordoned off throughout the day.
They added that there had been no reports of a gun being fired. Residents unable to get into their homes were taken to a local community centre.
The incident began shortly before 1100 BST on Friday. The man who was detained is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.
