A Scot who was freed from death row in America is due to appear in court in Edinburgh. A Scot who was freed from death row in America has appeared on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with assault to severe injury.
Kenny Richey was arrested under warrant on Friday morning, but Lothian and Borders police were unable to say what charge he faced. Kenny Richey, 43, made a brief appearance in private before Sheriff Isabella McColl.
The 43-year-old returned to Scotland from the US earlier this year after spending more than two decades in an Ohio jail awaiting execution. No plea or declaration was made on his behalf and the case was continued for further inquiry.
Mr Richey will appear at Edinburgh sheriff court. Mr Richey was remanded in custody. His appearance in court follows an alleged assault on a 63-year old man in July.
Mr Richey spent more than two decades in a US jail awaiting execution.
He returned to Scotland after being released earlier this year.
