The Scout Association said one girl was seriously injured and some others had broken bones, cuts and bruises. The Scout Association said one girl was detained in hospital overnight but her condition is not life-threatening.
None of the injuries are said to be life-threatening. Those injured suffered cuts, bruises, whiplash and shock.
A Scouts spokesman said the group of 102 scouts, mostly aged 14 to 18, and leaders, were touring Canada when the accident happened at about 1300 local time (1800 BST). A spokeswoman at Ross Memorial hospital, in Lindsay, confirmed a total of 16 people had been admitted. Simon Carter from the Scout Association said the group had been travelling in two coaches, and they were on schedule to return to the UK on Monday.
Most of the group spent the night in a local hotel and all their parents had been contacted, he said.
"We were lucky," he said. "The local emergency services are based a couple of miles away from the crash site."

Kim Coulter, the hospital's community relations co-ordinator, said all of the patients were being given X-rays and CT scans to determine the extent of their injuries, although she had been told none were life-threatening. David Thornton, an officer with the scout movement in Lancashire, said the young people were from a number of scouting groups across the county.
The spokeswoman added that British diplomats had been given all the patients' details and that an international phone line was being set up so the injured could contact family. The youngsters had travelled to Canada on 28 July and had been to two camps.
