Chancellor Angela Merkel and her ruling Christian Democrat/Christian Social Union alliance are favored to win the German parliamentary elections, but other parties such as the Left Party, Social Democrats and the right-wing Alternative for Germany are set to make some serious gains. The right-wing AfD party has garnered around 13 percent of the votes, according to exit polls, and is set to enter the German parliament for first time in its history. Angela Merkel’s CDU is leading the polls with over 30 percent, yet has significantly bled support.
