A leading Scottish housebuilder is set to announce redundancies in the wake of the property slump, BBC Scotland understands.

Scotia Homes, founded in Aberdeenshire in 1990, is reorganising its business.

The figures are not yet finalised but it could be as many as 40 - no more than 20 for each of its companies Scotia North and Scotia South.

Last month, fellow housebuilder Stewart Milne Group announced almost 300 jobs were to be lost due to the downturn.

Scotia builds about 350 homes across Scotland every year.

Martin Bruce, managing director of Scotia Homes, said: "This decision to undertake a reorganisation of the businesses has not been taken lightly and was only decided after a very thorough review of market conditions.

"It is a measure we have to take to adjust our property businesses for the future.

"Although we are fortunate at the level of advanced sales, the review will help to ensure long-term stability, albeit going forward at reduced levels."
