A man and a boy have died in a crash on the M62 which involved a car seen moments earlier travelling at "high speeds", police in Manchester said. A father and son have died following a crash on the M62 near Manchester which involved a car seen moments earlier driven at "high speeds", police said.

Three people in the Punto were injured and the man and the teenage boy later died. A woman is in hospital. Gary Procter, 47, and son James, 16, who are from Wakefield and were in the Punto, suffered fatal injuries. A woman in the car suffered serious injuries.
The M62 is shut westbound between junction 19 at Heywood and junction 18. A man has been arrested over the crash. The M62 was shut westbound between junctions 19 and 18 until 1615 BST.
Police said he was being held on suspicion of dangerous driving and remained in police custody for questioning. A 31-year-old man has been arrested over the crash.
They are appealing for anyone with information about the accident, or who spotted the Audi prior to the accident, to contact them. Holiday flight
The motorway is expected to remain closed till just before 1700 BST and diversions are in place. Police said he was being held on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol and remains in police custody for questioning.
Motorists travelling to Manchester using the M62 westbound are advised to leave the M62 at junction 20 at Rochdale and take the southbound A627(M) and A663 and join the M60 at junction 21. The 44-year-old woman who was injured in the Punto suffered broken ribs and a broken arm and is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Insp Andy Hudson said: "This is an absolute tragedy for this family who had been on their way to Manchester airport to start a summer holiday in America. My thoughts are with them all.
"We need anyone who saw this Audi being driven, possibly at speed, along the M62 eastbound early this morning to call us straight away. You might have information that is vital to our investigation."
