| The end of queueing egalitarianism with cash-in-hand “priority” (Unfair and unethical. J’accuse the queue, 29 August) has now spread to the BBC Proms. For over 100 years you could queue up for the arena or the gallery at the Albert Hall, taking your chances to see great music at a budget price; one of the best cultural deals in London, if not the world. Now those who go online can “pre-book” for a “small fee” and go into a guaranteed access queue, leaving ordinary Promenaders to take their chances for the leftovers in a second queue. This kills the historic principle of the Proms and incidentally (or not so incidentally) allows a price increase of an extra £1.50 to be smuggled in.
