The driver was promptly arrested but his motives remain unknown, according to media reports. “The driver has no legal record, he was likely depressed,” Pierre-Henry Brandet, a spokesman for French interior ministry said, adding that the initial findings indicated the incident was not terrorism-related.
Seven people have been injured during the incident, five of them remain in critical condition, RTL reported. The suspect made a suicide attempt Sunday, a judicial source told the Le Dauphiné libéré newspaper.

“The car tried to back off, but someone stood behind to stop it,” a witness told RMC.
