A train crash in the Egyptian city of Alexandria has led to multiple deaths and injuries, according to Ahram Online. Some reports put the number of people killed at more than 20, with dozens injured. A train crash in the Egyptian city of Alexandria has killed 25 people and injured 65 others, according to the city's head of ambulance services.
At least 21 people were killed and 55 injured in the crash, Reuters reports, citing security and medical sources. The head-on collision took place in the western suburb of Khorshid, head of ambulance services Dr. Mohamed Abu Homs said, as cited by AP. 
He said he fears the death and injury tolls could rise.

Interior Ministry aides and security leaders have traveled to the location of the collision to inspect the scene, Egyptian newspaper Youm7 reported. 
The acting prime minister of Egypt, Sherif Ismail, has also contacted the minister of transport following the crash, according to sources cited by Youm7.
Meanwhile, the railway authority has announced the formation of a technical committee to investigate the cause of the collision. 
Egypt has experienced other major train tragedies in the past, including a derailment which killed 19 people in Badr Rashin in Giza in 2013.
In 2012, a collision between a train and a school bus on a rail crossing killed 51 people, mostly children, in the town of Manaflut.
