A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the reports were currently unconfirmed. West Yorkshire police said they were called at about 1300 BST to reports of remains found at Wessenden Head Road on the moor, near Huddersfield.
The moors became infamous in the 1960s as the place where child murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley buried the bodies of their victims. A force spokesman said: "Inquiries are ongoing."
More to follow soon. It is understood that the discovery is not thought to be connected to the Moors Murders.

Greater Manchester officers have been actively searching for the body of one of the victims, Keith Bennett, for the last three years.
David Kirwan, the solicitor acting for Keith's mother Winnie Johnson, said on Tuesday that police had not been in touch about any discovery.
