Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has been admitted to hospital because he felt faint after suffering a heart attack last month, his publicist has said.

The star was admitted to an undisclosed New York hospital as a precaution, Stan Rosenfield said. His condition was not life-threatening, he added.

Last week, Grammer revealed that his heart had stopped beating after his heart attack in June.

The actor suffered the attack while paddle-boarding in Hawaii.

Grammer, 53, played psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane for 20 years on TV show Cheers and spin-off series Frasier.

Mr Rosenfield said Grammer's symptoms could have been brought on by the medication he was taking.

The actor began to feel unwell while in New York to promote new film Swing Vote, Mr Rosenfield added.

He had been due to appear on the Live With Regis And Kelly show on Tuesday morning which has now been cancelled.

Last week, Grammer told US news programme Entertainment Tonight how he nearly died following his heart attack.

"They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again," he said.
