The Londonderry mother-of-four murdered at the weekend suffered an "horrendous attack", the PSNI officer leading the investigation has said. About 100 people have held a vigil outside the Londonderry home of Jean Quigley who was murdered at the weekend.

Tributes have been left outside Jean Quigley's home
DCI Taylor said police were following a number of lines of inquiry, and had a number of leads they needed to follow up.

He said the police would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard from Ms Quigley between Wednesday and Friday, when she was last seen.

A neighbour described Mrs Quigley as a "nice quiet girl".
"She was a nice girl, a quiet girl, but she wouldn't pass you without speaking," Celine McLoughlin said.
"Her children hang about with my two, so it's really shocking to hear it."
SDLP Councillor Shaun Gallagher, who lives in the area, said people had woken up to "complete and utter shock".
"People are just in disbelief that this kind of event can happen in their own area," he said.
