Police investigating a suspected serial killer in eastern Indonesia say they have recovered 10 bodies.

Verry Henyanksyah, aged 30, was arrested last week after his lover's body was found in a suitcase in the capital, Jakarta.

Since then, nine bodies have been found behind his home in East Java province, including those of a mother and her three-year-old daughter.

"There might be more victims in this case," a police spokesman said.

Police say the motive for the killings, said to have occurred over a one-year period, remains unclear.

Television footage showed hundreds of villagers gathering in the area on Monday as the authorities dug up decomposed corpses from the ground.
