Version 0 of 1.

A Scot who was freed from death row in America was beaten up hours after being arrested in Edinburgh, his lawyer said.

Kenny Richey was detained following an incident on a roof-top in Orwell Terrace on Saturday. He was questioned by police but later released.

He was charged with breach of the peace but proceedings have now been dropped.

His lawyer, Peter Winning, said within hours of being allowed home, Mr Richey was attacked by a man claiming to be a professional boxer.

Mr Winning said: "He is glad he doesn't have to come up to court today because of his injuries.

"He got beaten up outside his house on Saturday night, Sunday morning.

"He's taken quite a hammering."

A crown office spokeswoman confirmed no action would be taken against Mr Richey over the alleged breach of the peace on Saturday.

She said: "I can confirm the procurator fiscal at Edinburgh received a report in relation to a man in respect of an alleged breach of the peace.

"After full and careful consideration of the report no action is being taken at this time."

Mr Richey spent more than two decades in a US jail awaiting execution.

He was released earlier this year and returned to Scotland.
