Responses to Afghan war go online
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/uk/7527649.stm Version 0 of 1. A collection of comments revealing the public's response to the war in Afghanistan is to be published online. The National Army Museum is publishing on its website 1,000 comments made in response to its exhibition called Helmand: The Soldier's Story. Comments were made by children, parents, pensioners and veterans. It is the first exhibition to cover an ongoing war and tells the story of the British troops who were the first to enter Helmand in 2006. The wall is positioned at the end of the exhibition, where people write messages on cards which are then displayed. Comments include: "I honestly believe being a soldier must be the toughest job on earth," and "I still say it ain't our war." Exhibition team leader, Jo Woolley said: "The exhibition has helped to provoke thought about the conflict, and has generated a quite intense response. "The comments wall took on a life of its own as a social commentary on not only the exhibition, but the conflict, the government, the latest media stories, and even on other comments made by others. It makes fascinating reading." An advertising campaign displaying the comments on the London Underground has also been launched. The exhibition opened in August 2007 and will close at the Chelsea-based venue in December 2008. |
