Who’s Got ‘Cool’
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/01/opinion/whos-got-cool.html Version 0 of 1. To the Editor: In David Brooks’s assessment of cool, “the cool person is stoical, emotionally controlled … the cool person is gracefully competent at something, but doesn’t need the world’s applause to know his worth” (“How Cool Works in America Today,” column, July 25). That describes perfectly former President Barack Obama. He was the only president this country has had who embodied cool. Perhaps Justin Trudeau of Canada and Emmanuel Macron of France can be assigned that designation, but neither of them carries it off as gracefully and authentically as Mr. Obama did.
