Hundreds of naturists have bared all in North Yorkshire to explore their way around one of the biggest mazes ever built.

The Naked Maze Night was held at the York maze, which this year featured a recreation of the Statue of Liberty 10 times bigger than the original.

The 1,300ft (400m) long maze has been made using more than a million living maize plants and covers about 18 acres.

Farmer Tony Pearcy created the image on fields in Elvington, near York.

He said: "The Naked Maze Night has grown to become very popular with naturists visiting the maze for the annual naked event.

"Even last year when the British summer failed to show, we still had over 200 naturist braving the weather to explore the maze in the buff."

His previous creations, on land just off the A64, have included a Viking long ship, the Flying Scotsman and Big Ben.

This year the farmer has moved his attraction to a new location near the Yorkshire Air Museum.

He said: "As a 'new' York Maze it seemed appropriate to base this year's design on New York. I also wanted to mark the links between York and New York.

"The Statue of Liberty is an instantly recognisable image and makes a great maze."
