A man has been rescued after a major search operation in Carlingford Lough. | |
It is understood he got into difficulty when he tried to swim from Warrenpoint to Omeath just before 0300 BST on Saturday. | |
The alarm was raised after cries for help were heard. Helicopters, RNLI lifeboats and the Coastguard were involved in the operation. | |
Diana Gadd from the Coastguard said the man was suffering from hypothermia when he was found. | |
"He must have been very strong because he was swimming for some considerable time," she said. | "He must have been very strong because he was swimming for some considerable time," she said. |
"Luckily the tide was coming in so it was sweeping him up the river, had it been going the other way it would have been a different story altogether." |
